Cloth Diaper FAQ

Q : How many cloth diapers do I need?

A : All you need is some basic supplies such as cloth diapers, wetbag to store the soiled diapers, few wipes to wipe baby's bum, and changing mat if you need one.

Q : Which type of cloth diapers are the best? Sized or One size?

A : There are no perfect system for any baby as they are born with different built. In order to know which is best to suit your baby,  you'll need to try them. Sized diapers comes in sizes, so you'll have to change them once baby outgrow them, but they will have better fit compare to onesize. Onesize diaper are more economic as they can be use from newborn to potty train, but they might not fit each child perfectly. So I recommend to mix both sized and onesize in order to know which suits your baby best.

Q : How to deal with cloth diapers when I'm outside?

A : It depends on how often you want to wash them. The safe zone is to have least 12 to 18 pieces. The extra can spare for the rainy days or extra poo poo days. :)

Q: How to wash cloth diapers?

A : Washing cloth diapers are easy. Shake any solids to the toilet. Store them inside the wetbag/diaper pail until wash day. Use only 1/4 detergents that contains non enzyme, whitener and softener to wash your diapers as they will "eat up" your diaper and shorten the diaper's life span. And the best is to wash using washing machine, as if you hand wash your diapers, you may not completely rinse out the detergent, and will cause detergent build up which lead to leaking and stinky smell diaper. With washing machine,  wash with normal cycle then rinse it twice (recommended) to clear out any left over detergent/residue. Hang dry/line dry them under the sun. Any stains that stays will eventually gone, as sun is the natural bleach!

Q: Is it cheaper to use cloth diapers?

A: Yes, definitely...here calculation of using cloth diapers insted disposible diapers:

1 disposable diaper cost about RM0.70

You need about 5 a day minimally and its not healthy to change them any lesser times.
RM0.70 x 5 pieces = RM4.20 x 365 a year = RM1533 x 3 yrs = RM4599
TOTAL COST: RM4599
This figure does not include the diaper cream you would have to use to prevent  diaper rash caused by disposable diapers. Look at how happy that that that disposable-diaper-brand company man is!

Cost of using cloth diaper:

1 cloth diaper on average cost RM50 (including the cost of inserts & soakers)
1 baby need about 15 cloth diapers

You save more than RM3000! If you take care of your diapers, you can pass them down to your 2nd child, thats more money saved.
